CAMP FAQ What is the difference between the Lil’ Wranglers camp and the Wranglers camp? The main difference between these two camps is that the lil Wrangler’s camp is geared a bit more toward our younger riders. We will still separate the kids based on age and ability and try to match them with the perfect horse for the week! In both camps the children will ride every day and spend time in the barn with their horses. In the Wrangler’s camp they will have more opportunities as the time frame is longer and allows for more activities and adventures. How does drop off and pick up work?Drop off starts at 8:50 each morning! Please do not bring your child early as the counselors have a team meeting each morning at 8:30 and we will not be ready for your child! Please watch the parking attendants closely and do not head down the big hill toward the house until they wave you through. Pick up and drop off is always in front of the log home (except for advance camp where the kids are dropped off at the barn each morning at 8am!). We strive to make pick up and drop off go quickly! Please stay in your cars... we do not allow parents to stay with their child at camp! My child is 6- what camp should I choose? Our suggestion is whatever works best for your family! Your child would “qualify” for either little wranglers or wranglers camp and would have a blast at either one! What should my child bring with them to camp? Helmet (bike works great)Change of clothes (come dressed to ride) but pack summer attire and sandals if desired Swimsuit and towel Googles and swim floatation if needed (Pool is ALWAYS monitored by an adult and counselors!) Bug spray (we do spray for bugs on the farm but a few weeks out of the year we still need it) Sunscreen (counselors can reapply)! Closed toe shoes to ride (boots with a little heal work great) Lunch (for the wrangler and master wrangler camp)Snacks Water bottle Is my child allowed to bring a phone to camp?We do not allow technology of ANY sort at camp! We believe this is an excellent time for kids to unplug and unwind from the demands of our technological world! We will take photos for them and if you need to reach them at any time please feel free to contact our camp director or their camp counselor. (please contact Jill if you have a specific MEDICAL concern and feel like your child needs to have their phone on them.... for example, we had a child attend with diabetes and everything was monitored on her phone). Should my child pack a lunch? If your child is signed up for the Wrangler or Advanced Wrangler camp please send them with a lunch. We provide snacks and popsicles! My child can’t swim and I’m nervous about the pool… We have someone supervising the pool at all times during camp hours and the counselors are required to be in the pool with the children at all times. Please send a floatation device with your child if they are not able to swim and just touch base with your counselor at drop off about your concerns. We have small groups and make sure that the kids are well cared for around the water! Do you require masks or vaccinations?NO! We ask that you do not send your child to camp if they are feeling ill; however, we do not believe in requiring masks or vaccinations when the children spend 99% of their time at camp in the great outdoors breathing fresh air. We take means to clean and sanitize our surroundings but also recognize this is a farm and the kids will be exposed to a little bit of dirt, manure, and even participate in some farm chores during their time at camp! How do I know if my child would qualify for Advanced Wrangler Camp? Does your child ride independently? Know how to get their own horse from a pasture and tack it up? These campers should be able to walk and trot their horse independently. Contact Jill for more info but this camp is designed for kids who have taken lessons or attended several camps and wish to further their skills. They will be assigned a horse for the week and they will care for that horse and spend the entire camp time in the barn. This is a much smaller camp and tailored towards those older campers who just can’t get enough horse time! Great for ages 9 and up. This is a fabulous camp option for kids who are involved in our leasing and riding program! Lessons prior to this camp are highly encouraged! Drop off each morning is at 8am at the barn and pick up is at 1:00pm in front of the house! I have a son- do you have boys groups? In the past, we usually have one group of boys during each Wrangler week camp led by a male counselor. Please contact Jill for availability. For our Lil’ Wranglers camp we always have boys and will often have groups that mix both boys and girls together! I would like to send siblings to camp- can you make sure they are in different groups? YES! We aim to please! We will make sure that your child is placed with the kids they would like to be with; or if they would rather not be with a sibling we understand that as well! Can my child come to more than one week of camp? Absolutely! Last year we had one camper that came to 6 different weeks of camp- it was a new record! Can my child come to both the Wrangler camp and the Lil’ Wrangler camp? Yes! They are welcome to attend either or both camps! What are some of the things they do at camp?We recommend you watch our camp video attached to the camp page to get a feel for our camps! Our camps are unlike any other farm camps you may have experienced in the past! We offer a huge array of activities, games, crafts, horse opportunities and experiences that will leave your child happy, exhausted and ready for more! What do you do if it rains? We still hold camp! Please send your child with rain boots and rain gear... we promise they may get a little wet but they won't melt! I heard a rumor my child does "chores" at camp?Yes! It's true! We expose the children to all areas of farm life and believe that a chore a day is the best way to show them every side of what it is like to have their very own horse! We assign age appropriate chores and make them exciting and fun while teaching the kids the joy of completing a task and doing it well! In a world that promotes technology, we promise to get your child experiencing every single aspect of the great outdoors and sending them home tired in the best sort of way! Something came up and my child is no longer able to attend the camp I enrolled in- do I get my deposit back? Unfortunately, we do not refund deposits. The money will go toward our camp scholarships and help fun someone’s camp tuition who is not able to afford a normal camp week. If you cancel your enrollment within a week of the camp start date the camp fee is not refunded. Who do I call if I have more questions about camp? Please text or call Jill at 616-813-4419 for more questions. All enrollments are done through the website. Payment can be done online at sign up! Why did the cost of camp go up this year? We have not raised our camp prices in several years; however, just like everyone else we have experienced a significant rise in prices for EVERYTHING involved in running our farm and our camps. Counselors are requiring higher pay, horse feed has nearly doubled in price, and cost of shavings have gone through the roof! We understand that camp is a luxury and promise to do our best to give your child the best week of summer that they are bound to talk about for months and months to come!
